Sports photography: capturing basketball action

IMG_4685I went to a basketball court yesterday afternoon carrying not a ball, but a DSLR camera and a tripod. I was there not to play basketball, but to practice sports photography.

Whenever I play basketball, my concerns are shooting, rebounding, stealing, dribbling and passing the ball.

In basketball photography, my concern is trying to capture those actions using a camera.

Capturing those moments ain’t no easy feat. There are simply too many things to consider, such as lighting and camera settings.

Here are some pictures with short captions:

Kid passes the ball to his teammate…
Kid passes the ball to his teammate…
…then the teammate attempts to score
…then the teammate attempts to score
Kid doesn’t attempt to shoot the ball; he passes it instead to one of his teammates
